Sea turtles have roamed our oceans for the last 110 million years. They are fundamental link in marine ecosystems. They help maintain the health of seagrass beds and coral reefs, which benefit commercially valuable species like shrimp, lobster, and tuna.

"The ocean is their home."
And our responsibility.
The Seven Species
Endangered
Green Turtle
Named for the greenish color of their cartilage and fat, not their shells. They are the only herbivorous sea turtle.
Vulnerable
Leatherback
The champion of the turtles. It grows the largest, dives the deepest, and travels the farthest of all sea turtles.
Critically Endangered
Hawksbill
Named for their narrow, pointed beak. They feed mainly on sponges and help keep coral reefs healthy.
The Threats
Nearly all species of sea turtle are classified as Endangered. They face threats from plastic pollution, poaching, bycatch in fishing gear, and climate change affecting their nesting sands.
